A bypass was built that travels on the west side of Aberdeen, and the US designation was moved onto that new roadway. It runs north from US 12 and connects with the old alignment south of 24th Avenue Northeast. In North Dakota, US is a major north—south artery. US and US 52 remain paired together to Carrington. From there, US continues northward through Sheyenne. Ten miles 16 km north of Sheyenne, the highway curves in order to go around Devil's Lake, and it then continues to west of Minnewaukan, North Dakota.
From there it goes to North Dakota Highway 5 at Rocklake. Recently, US was rebuilt near Minnewaukan, North Dakota to accommodate flooding close to the city. Route Interstate 21 Interstate 23 Interstate U. Route 47 U. Route 0 U. Route 1 U. Route 2 U. Route 10 U. Route 11 U.
Route 20 U. The transverse and longitudinal post-tensioning also was modified. The RFP called for three strand transverse tendons at 1- to 2-ft spacing, but the alternate design proposed utilizing four strand tendons with 2-ft 9. This modification saved on ducts, heads, grouts, caps and other building materials. Additionally, the original longitudinal post-tensioning design specified 15 strand tendons, while the alternate design specified a combination of 19 strand and 12 strand tendons.
This modification allowed for smaller stressing anchors in some areas. This sparked a long battle with toll road opponents that delayed the project multiple times see the history section at the bottom of this page for more details. This alternative consisted of a bifurcated project. The southern half, from Loop to Stone Oak Pkwy. The northern half, from Stone Oak Pkwy. The Federal Highway Administration approved the project in August During its and sessions, the Texas Legislature passed new funding sources for transportation known as Prop 1 and Prop 7 , which were subsequently approved by voters.
Because the physical footprint of the new toll-free project did not change substantially from the approved tolled project, no new environmental studies were required. In May , TxDOT released updated plans for the project, which subsequently became the final plans.
These plans included two to four toll-free freeway lanes in each direction plus an HOV lane. In addition, it included the completion of the northern ramps for the Loop interchange.
