It tells the story of a young woman who committed the sin of adultery but learns to cope with punishments. Pearl lives up to the devilish child the Puritan people believed she would be, as she is used as a symbol for sin throughout the story; thus, she reveals the inmost thoughts of her mother, and the guilt of her father. Hawthorne uses Pearl as a symbol of sin through the story. As she was being judge it may had seem as if Prynne was then connected to the rosebush she saw in the prison and feels like the flowers on the ground being stomped by the criminal passing by.
As Prynne is holding her sweet little baby Pearl and grins down at Pearl while she is being judged she feels like Pearl is her greatest treasure. The letter did not only reminded her of what she had done but it also let everyone else know what she did. While being married Hester had a child with someone else which is called adultery. That is what the A on her dress was suppose to represent.
