Located in the university's Building 7, it was designed by genius Filipino architect Rafael Nelson Aboganda, based on the drawings of M. Escher, in Aboganda wanted to create a "memorable and inspiring experience" for future students of the university. However, both he and the stairwell faded into obscurity shortly after its completion.

Some say that the lack of information about the stairs is intentional. Over the years, a number of strange cases have come about in connection with the Escherian Stairwell. However, discussion of the stairwell, and these events in particular, is actively discouraged by certain members of the RIT faculty.

Despite this, the rumours persist. In addition to these, there have been a number of other strange and unexplained cases regarding the Escharian Stairwell. Some even report sighting phantom figures going up or down the stairs, just out of sight, as they enter. Yet these figures never come out on the other side. Are these phenomena only psychological? The arm then magically passes through the wall and appears again. Nevertheless, we can all agree that filmmaker Michael Lacanilao beautifully and carefully executed the hoax.

Michael Lacanilao admitted it in his unsuccessful Kickstarter Project where he sought a total funding of 12 USD to carry out the film production and other aspects to build the perfect myth. The most powerful aspects of myths are their ability to incite wonder and excitement.

The myth is that located in Rochester, NY, is the Escherian Stairwell, an architectural marvel that seems to violate the laws of physics and basic logic by looping back into itself.

Michael then released an FAQ video on 4 Sept and another on 30 April to address all the burning questions from everyone. He revealed that the goal of his video was to recreate realistic and believable film again, something that he claimed was no longer existent to him in modern movies and cinema.

Michael did disclose to us that The Escherian Stairwell was built to be a myth. He reaches the top, turns the corner, and suddenly reappears at the bottom of the lower flight of stairs, leading up to the landing that he appears to have just left. Then a second man-on-the-street component, with students who know about the staircase. Over the summer, he was taken aback by the flood of pilgrims showing up demanding to see the stairwell. She told us that during her trip with her boyfriend they were arguing in the car about who would do the stairwell first.
